About us

Alef initiative

The Alef Initiative was established in 2017 and is an initiative that works to support vulnerable groups in Iraqi society by providing free education to orphaned children, children of needy families, and displaced persons, in addition to children living in areas that have been subjected to war conflicts. The initiative also aims to provide job opportunities for young people of the same category in the education sector. The initiative is registered as one of the initiatives of the Bonyan Organization for Development and Education in Iraq. Bonyan Organization for Development and Education is a non-governmental organization registered with the Iraqi Department of Non-Governmental Organizations under the number (1SE2204022)

The "Alef" initiative works to establish educational centers for orphans and the needy, as it provides a suitable educational environment for these children, and helps them continue their educational path, in addition to returning children who have dropped out to their schools.

In addition to providing education for children, the “Alef” initiative centers serve as training centers for youth from vulnerable groups in Iraqi society. These young people are trained in the skills necessary to work in the education sector, with the aim of qualifying them to obtain jobs in this field.

With regard to parents, there is coordination with the Ministry of Education and the concerned authorities to open literacy centers for them, and thus the family as a whole is included in the educational program. These centers aim to teach reading and writing to people who suffer from illiteracy, thus enhancing the level of education for the entire family.

In addition, the “Alef” initiative works to meet the needs of the families of these children, including distributing food aid, providing necessary treatments, and meeting other needs. This includes providing transport lines for children and providing necessary clothing.

Educational centers are opened either directly through the Alef initiative or in cooperation with other local organizations or official bodies concerned with education, and are fully managed by the Alef initiative.

The partnerships established by the initiative include the following organizations: Rafd Al-Ataa Organization for Sustainable Development, Dar Abi Wa Ummi for Orphan Care, Sanabel Al-Gharbiya Foundation, Suhb Al-Ghayth Foundation for Development, Khair Al-Nisa Foundation for Relief, and Retha'a Al-Insaniya Foundation for Development and Education.
